Beware the Ides of March… What is an Ides?

Do you know what an Ides is? In the ancient Roman calendar supposedly developed by Romulus the Ides is the 15th of March, July and October and the 13th day of every other month. While the phrase Ides of March became synonymous with doom thanks to William Shakespeare, it originally was a simple feature of the Roman calendar. Check out a picture of the Roman calendar here.
